Member Spotlight: Roya Platsis

They say the only constant is change, and to that we say thank goodness, because that means we get to see a lot of our member and change management expert, Roya Platsis. As the name of her business suggests, Fine Balance Consulting is all about striking just that; it’s a human-level approach to organizational development and transitional spaces, with the client at the center of the process. Much of the small-to-medium-size business world is at this point, navigating significant change both daily and strategically. So how best to create the necessary adaptations? Building the communication systems and spaces for people to share safely and support one another is an important key, and having someone to work through the meta-level perspectives of the changes is perhaps most crucial of all. That’s where Roya shines, and we do mean shine. If you’ve been to one of her monthly gatherings, you’ve felt the energy she weaves into the ideas in her seminars

A self-described ‘optimistic realist’ she explains change as an opportunity, and not simply in the conventional ‘carpe diem’ kind of way. It’s an opportunity for true community-building and organizational introspection, therein forging those communities into teams that care for each other while they navigate change, and go on to do excellent work together. To hear her tell it, change is an opportunity for growth and aspiration par excellence, saying, “I believe in the individual’s ability to excavate the best of themselves with proper reflections.” A powerfully simple statement, and best of all, one that seems achievable within the framework of making systemic changes to anything, be it workplace or personal. The system supporting those reflections is what Fine Balance Consulting helps create, and as a member here at Keller her micro-workshops do much the same.

With an array of interpersonal skills at hand, and the goal of imbuing systems with equity and excellence, Roya states emphatically, “Change management is good communication. The changes and growth goals put into place by organizations result in best-in-class outcomes when people are cared for.” Sounds straightforward, but as the saying goes, it’s ‘simple, not easy.’ Roya’s work proves that having someone holding the big picture while changes are made not only makes the process more pleasant for everyone, but is an elemental piece of navigating the world in business or personal life, whether you’re looking to make incremental moves or large leaps in your goals. So strike up a conversation, attend one of the sessions in-house, and get yourself the tools you need to achieve your goals while keeping them human-centered. If change is constant, we owe it to ourselves to be adept at managing it, and Roya can help point the way.
